The post US DOJ Seeks to Recover Bitcoin and Car from Teen Hacker! appeared first on Coinpedia Fintech News
The US Department of Justice is seeking to recover $5.2 million worth of stolen Bitcoin and a sports car purchased by teenage hacker Ahmad Wagaafe Hared in 2016. Hared, along with Matthew Gene Ditman and other co-conspirators, engaged in a SIM-swapping scheme to steal funds from cryptocurrency executives in Northern California. They deceived cell phone providers into disclosing details about the SIM cards of their targets, allowing them to bypass two-factor authentication measures and carry out the thefts. Hared used the stolen funds to buy a BMW i8, and prosecutors are seeking to recover both the car and the cryptocurrency.
